“For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.” Psalm 33:4
One of the battle hymn choruses of those who have been championing the issue of gay marriage has been the drum beat chant of a cry for equality. When five members of the U.S. Supreme Court said that which is immoral is no longer illegal, and the rest of us have to accept that; then the shouts of victory for equality began to echo from both coasts, and flyover country just had to listen to it. The front and center cry for equal rights has been the background music and light show for every conceivable argument that liberals attempt to make for practically everything they are for that God is against.
Rightly understood everyone should be for equal rights. It is wrong not to be for equal rights. All men are created equal, and all men are equally fallen, and all men equally struggle with living in a sin-cursed, desperately evil world. It is a virtue of justice and a strength of a nation that demands that all men be treated equally and justly in the sight of the law. The Lord takes note of any nation that doesn’t treat men equally. Ecclesiastes 5:8 – “If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.” Justice for all is a matter of divine instruction, and judgment will ultimately fall on any people who embrace judicial perversion.
While equal rights is a matter of divine concern, men have to understand exactly what “rights” they do have; and what rights they don’t have. One right man does not have is the standing to have “equal rights with God.” Men may have equality with each other, but they will never have the right to have equality with God. He is the source, course, and force of what is defined as truth, righteousness, holiness, and wholesomeness, and no amount of the population on earth has an “equal right” to define their own truth.
The premise that Gay Marriage is a matter of equal rights is a smoke and mirrors argument born in the smoke filled rooms of hell’s lowest office. Marriage is a right only under heaven’s prescribed conditions, and man has not been given the right to re-prescribe those conditions. Man no more has the authority or the ability to redefine the laws of marriage than he does the laws of mathematics. Marriage is as much a divine and unbreakable law to God as gravity is to man. Men do not have the right to rights God has not created. In the same sense that prayer is a divinely qualified privilege, so is marriage. Not everyone gets to pray. No man has the right to be heard by God just because he wants to. Some people are on praying ground, some people are not. We all may have the right to be heard in court, but no man has the right to be heard in heaven just because he demands to. No man has the right to enter heaven just because he expects to. The Lord has decreed the requirements for such, and men do not get to vote on it, shape it, revamp it, just because they want the right to. Men no more get to decide what marriage is, or isn’t, any more than they get to decide what it takes for a man to go to heaven. As our constitution understands that we all have “certain inalienable rights” doing the work that God has already done is not one of them. Men may pursue happiness, only as far as God allows. Men may pursue liberty, but not beyond the bounds of God’s revealed word. Men may pursue life, but it is not their right to find it, it is God’s right to give it, or take it.
The reality is that the cry for equal rights is not a cry for men to be equal with men, but for men to be equal with God. The current cry for equality is a feigned attempt to say “we have the right to define what marriage is,” which is tantamount to saying, “truth is whatever we want it to be;” which is to say, “we have the same say that God does.”
That being said, this is the ever-present fulfilling of man’s belief of Satan’s lie that “ye shall be as gods.” What they claim is a matter of equality is nothing more than the fruit of depravity revealing it’s inglorious head. Understanding men are to be viewed equally in the eyes of other men, but they have no right to be viewed equally with God is an ever-needed change worth making.
