Why Gay Marriage is Not a matter of Equal Rights

“For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.” Psalm 33:4

One of the battle hymn choruses of those who have been championing the issue of gay marriage has been the drum beat chant of a cry for equality.  When five members of the U.S. Supreme Court said that which is immoral is no longer illegal, and the rest of us have to accept that; then the shouts of victory for equality began to echo from both coasts, and flyover country just had to listen to it.  The front and center cry for equal rights has been the background music and light show for every conceivable argument that liberals attempt to make for practically everything they are for that God is against.

Rightly understood everyone should be for equal rights.  It is wrong not to be for equal rights.  All men are created equal, and all men are equally fallen, and all men equally struggle with living in a sin-cursed, desperately evil world.  It is a virtue of justice and a strength of a nation that demands that all men be treated equally and justly in the sight of the law.  The Lord takes note of any nation that doesn’t treat men equally.  Ecclesiastes 5:8 – “If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.”  Justice for all is a matter of divine instruction, and judgment will ultimately fall on any people who embrace judicial perversion.

While equal rights is a matter of divine concern, men have to understand exactly what “rights” they do have; and what rights they don’t have.  One right man does not have is the standing to have “equal rights with God.”  Men may have equality with each other, but they will never have the right to have equality with God.  He is the source, course, and force of what is defined as truth, righteousness, holiness, and wholesomeness, and no amount of the population on earth has an “equal right” to define their own truth.

The premise that Gay Marriage is a matter of equal rights is a smoke and mirrors argument born in the smoke filled rooms of hell’s lowest office.  Marriage is a right only under heaven’s prescribed conditions, and man has not been given the right to re-prescribe those conditions.  Man no more has the authority or the ability to redefine the laws of marriage than he does the laws of mathematics.  Marriage is as much a divine and unbreakable law to God as gravity is to man.  Men do not have the right to rights God has not created.   In the same sense that prayer is a divinely qualified privilege, so is marriage.  Not everyone gets to pray.  No man has the right to be heard by God just because he wants to. Some people are on praying ground, some people are not.  We all may have the right to be heard in court, but no man has the right to be heard in heaven just because he demands to.  No man has the right to enter heaven just because he expects to. The Lord has decreed the requirements for such, and men do not get to vote on it, shape it, revamp it, just because they want the right to.  Men no more get to decide what marriage is, or isn’t, any more than they get to decide what it takes for a man to go to heaven.  As our constitution understands that we all have “certain inalienable rights” doing the work that God has already done is not one of them.  Men may pursue happiness, only as far as God allows.  Men may pursue liberty, but not beyond the bounds of God’s revealed word.  Men may pursue life, but it is not their right to find it, it is God’s right to give it, or take it.

The reality is that the cry for equal rights is not a cry for men to be equal with men, but for men to be equal with God. The current cry for equality is a feigned attempt to say “we have the right to define what marriage is,” which is tantamount to saying, “truth is whatever we want it to be;” which is to say, “we have the same say that God does.”

That being said, this is the ever-present fulfilling of man’s belief of Satan’s lie that “ye shall be as gods.”  What they claim is a matter of equality is nothing more than the fruit of depravity revealing it’s inglorious head.  Understanding men are to be viewed equally in the eyes of other men, but they have no right to be viewed equally with God is an ever-needed change worth making.

One Nation Under Judgment: How Same-Sex Marriage Is God’s Judgment on a People

This last week five of the nine Supreme Court Justices of the United States decreed that the U.S. Constitution does not legally prevent men from marrying men, and women from marrying women.  Not being a constitutional lawyer, I am not qualified to speak to the legalities of the matter or the nuances and principles hidden within the language of our nations preeminent legal document.  The end result therefore, is as one writer put it, stating that “genderless marriage” has legal protection under the law; which sets the legal stage for a society that increasingly welcomes the idea that gender is just a matter of personal choice.  Now in reality there is no such thing as same-sex marriage.  While it does not actually exist, there is a legal pretension that it does.  When I speak of same-sex marriage I am speaking of that legal notion, not any real existence of it.

All of this leaves the Bible believing Christian with frustrated feelings, mangled emotions, and almost speechless exasperation.  Our immediate tendency is to think that we are now getting ready for the judgment of God to fall upon America.  There seems to be an almost palpable feeling that we are waiting for the divine shoes to drop.  Are we waiting for another massive terror attack? Should we be anticipating the Grandmother of all earthquakes?  Will we suffer a surprise attack and attempted invasion by another country?  Is God going to crash our economy and send us into deep poverty?  Will there be some unstoppable plague? What about a Cataclysmic disaster?  Yellowstone’s super-volcano maybe? Not to mention the possibility of catastrophic climate chaos. We could go on with imaginative ways that God could and might send His divine wrath upon a people so bent on ridding their world of His presence, His principles, and His promises.  He certainly has good reason to, and we would be double foolish to think He couldn’t, or worse to think Him wrong if He did.  The culture of our country is certainly fattening itself for the slaughter.

He may very well be getting ready to send down the thunder, the people of our nation have certainly asked for it, and I’ll never say He won’t.  However, Biblically speaking, we need not wait for further judgment until we recognize that what is happening within this culture is in fact already a divine judgment.  There is no longer any point in wondering if God is going to do something to us, He already is, and the homosexual revolution is it.

In the days of Jeremiah when Israel was being judged, and before Jerusalem was being besieged, the weeping prophet cried, “O LORD . . . thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.”  (Jeremiah 5:3)  Isaiah the prophet also underscored a people who failed to see God’s judging hand, and respond to it when he said, “For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.”  I said that to say this . . . it is imperative for any culture, any people to recognize God’s judgment in their land, and respond to it, and when we take the current status of our culture and lay it under the microscope of scripture we cannot help but see that our present condition is in fact a result of the divine judgment of Almighty God.

Where do we see that and how can we know it?  I’m glad you asked.

When we turn to our Bibles to learn how God deals with people we find an abundance of ways that God judged cultures, countries, and nations.  There are two however, that stand out to us when we look at where we are, and what is going on.  One is a parallel example between the United States and the Nation of Israel; and the second is an outright declaration of how God handles a heartless people who refuse to receive His Word.

When we look at what God said about the nation of Israel in Psalm 80 and Isaiah 5 we cannot help but notice the same digression of protection in our own country that has taken place over the last generation.  In the parable of the vineyard, the prophet Isaiah speaks of how God removed His hedge of divine protection from His chosen nation.  He said in Isaiah 5:4-6 – “What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:  And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.”  What God did to Israel was very simple, He stopped protecting, pruning and providing for her.  When He did, like an unkempt garden, the wild animals came in to eat it up, the briers and thistles rose from the grassroots to choke it out, roaming strangers began to take ownership of the land, and to add to that, “He” stopped the rain.

Psalm 80:12 speaking of Israel as God’s vineyard wrote, “Why hast thou broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?  The boar out of the wood doth waste it and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.” In the last generation we have seen China a nation hostile to our God and our values, run rough shod through our great economic industries, buying up our lands, and businesses.  We now financially live at their mercy as they hold the note on the U.S. government. They have military capabilities now that scare us to death . . . why? Because they got them from us?  They have “plucked our” land financially, militarily and if the current news scandals are true, they have plucked our land politically.  We wake up each day to new terror attacks in other places of the world yes, but we also wake up seemingly each day to new terror threats on our own soil. We remember the attacks on our own soil starting back in 93 with the first attack on the WTC.  Then we can go down the list, Oklahoma City, 9/11, (both of them – 01 and Benghazi) the Boston Marathon and Fort Hood, Texas, to list a few.  According to the Cato Institute an article edited by John Mueller, “http://politicalscience.osu.edu/faculty/jmueller//since.html”, since 2001 attack on the World Trade Center, our country has been targeted for terrorism 61 times in the last 14 years.  Thankfully they were not all successful; yet the wild boars keep running through the vineyard.

The briers and thistles of secular humanism, socialism, and militant atheism have reached heights of influence unprecedented in the history of our nation.  Though they have always been here, they have never been so influential in our culture as they are now.  The weeds of the godlessness are taller than the vines of fruitfulness, and cover the landscape like kudzu.

We are no longer a pruned and nurtured people.  The church that Christ established as a pillar and ground of truth for people to be nourished is seeing less and less attendance, but more importantly less and less repentance.  As a friend of mine once said, “People no longer repent, they change churches.”  When confronted with sin in their lives, it seems that on the whole one of two things usually happen, . . . they fire the preacher, or the leave the church. (I am thankful that I have never experienced this at the church that I pastor.) There are plenty of preachers out there that will gladly make the culture feel good on their way to an eternal death.  You no longer have to drive to Houston to learn how to smile big and hold your Bible high, you can do that now in record numbers of religious clubs with steeples on top of them.

All of that being said what the Lord did to Israel parallel’s the recent history of what is happening to America; protection, provision, and pruning seeming to be vanishing, if they have not already vanished.

The second passage of scripture, and the most pointed passage of scripture that explains to us what divine judgment looks like on a society is the famous chapter of Romans 1:18-32.  As Adrian Rogers used to say, this is black ink on white paper so it should be impossible to miss.

In Romans 1:18, the Apostle identifies for us a people that the Lord makes a divine decision about, and then he delineates what those divine decisions are.  In that verse he tells us that “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.”  In other words, God’s wrath can be clearly seen on a people who suppress the truth defined by God.  Throughout the rest of the chapter the Bible pictures for us three things that are actions of the wrath of God on a rebellious people.

1.) “God gave them up to uncleanness” – verse 24.  The first action a wrathful God takes on a people who suppress his truth is to turn them loose to the uncleanness they so desperately want.  Solomon understood this fact in Proverbs 1:29-31 when he stated, “For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.”  The uncleanness that he describes in verse 24 and 25 speaks of  indulgence of the flesh, and idolatry of nature.  As Paul said they are given up to “dishonor their own bodies” and “worship the creature more than the Creator.”  It is almost as though Paul was taking a picture of the Woodstock generation in which “free-love,” was the highest virtue, new drugs were the thinking man’s way out, and mother earth was the greatest deity.  The generation that touted Peace, Love and Rock and Roll, got haircuts, bought suits, and gave us HIV, the EPA, and the ACLU.  The generation that taught our country to dishonor their bodies with sex and drugs, has produced children and grandchildren (the ones they didn’t kill in their mother’s womb) that paint themselves like comic books, pierce themselves like pin-cushions, legalize marijuana, and vainly attempt to think they can legislate the control of the climate.  Self-satisfaction and abortion on demand is the highest cause, saving whales, hugging trees, and refreezing the polar ice-caps make for the most honorable of morals in this generation. When God takes His hand off of a people, self and nature become the objects of their most passionate affection.

2.) “God gave them up to vile affections” – verse 26  The second fingerprint of God’s revealed wrath is that when He removes His restraining hand on man, not only do they engage in uncleanness, but they then embrace vile affections. To borrow from John MacArthur, what Paul described in verse 24 as a “sexual revolution” in verse 26 turns into a “homosexual revolution.”  “Even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature, And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman being burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly . . .”  When a culture refuses to hear what God says, God will give them what they want, and here is what they want.  While they worship nature in verse 25, they defy even it in verse 26 and 27.  The Bible calls homosexuality a “vile affection.” When we peel back the king’s English of those verses we find that a vile affection means a “disgraceful, shameful, or undignified passion or feeling.”  Simply put this is the flesh unleashed!  Man left on his own turns to himself to engage and embrace every itch of depravity that saturates his soul.  What the Bible reveals to us here is the simple yet profound truth that when man with eyes wide open rejects God, God will with eyes wide open reject man, and leave him to himself.  Friend, the only judgment more severe than that is hell itself.

3.) “God gave them over to a reprobate mind.” – vs 28  The last fingerprint of judgment that Paul describes for us is the reprobate mind.  Literally it is a non-functioning and useless mind.  As Paul finishes the chapter he lists 21 different qualities of the man without a rightly functioning mind.  “Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,  Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,  Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:  Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”   There is not time to cover each and every quality . . . but it is enough to say here that the number 21 is fitting.  Seven is the perfect number, three is the number of God, they are filled with unrighteousness meaning here is the fullness of their perfect defiance and rebellion against God.  What does it yield? – Perfect insanity.  A reprobate mind is completely insane, and beyond the capability of discerning divine truth.

While our culture has been irrational, unthinking, and morally bankrupt for a while, we are beginning to scratch the surface on reprobate minds.  From the sensation over Bruce Jenner, to the circus of Rachel Dolezal, people are gaining acceptance and public praise for things that used to put a person in an institution.  While these kinds of people have always existed, they have not always been paraded down main street like heroes, and praised like a superstar.  Our culture is beginning to welcome the idea that your gender can be whatever you want it to be, your race can be whatever you want it to be, your spouse can be whatever you want them to be . . . in short we are a culture of gods who without God demand the right to create their own reality.  More concisely put, we as a culture are going insane.

The fact of God’s wrath, and the facts of God’s wrath are spelled out for us in God’s divine word.  We do not have to wonder, we only have to read it, and believe it.  There is nothing more dangerous than seeing the judgment of God, and denying the judgment of God.  To see it happening but not say it is happening is treason against the divine King.

I do not know what God will yet do, but when I place the things I see in our culture, next to the things He says in His scripture, I cannot help but see that we are one nation under judgment.  Will there be more, that remains to be seen.  For now however, it is incumbent on every child of God to obey 2 Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”  That my friend is the only change that can be made.  That change is the only change that changes anything, and it will change everything; for our time it is the change worth making.

An Irrelevant Ruling: The Supreme Kangaroo Court – there is still no such thing as same-sex marriage.

“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” – Proverbs 29:2

In the flesh, there is great mourning today. – Our country has sanctioned and celebrated what our President calls a victory, but our God calls an abomination.

In the spirit, there is great joy.  The course of the age is going just as our Lord said it would, and as the darkness creeps across the landscape our heart is lifted with anticipation for the Son-rise.

The bad news for the president and the secular left is that their version of love did not gain a victory, but rather it has done more and more to secure its defeat.  In the ultimate sense of the truth, love does not win, the LORD does.  As Franklin Graham so eloquently put it, “The supreme court did not define marriage, therefore it has no ability to redefine marriage.”

While there is much to be frustrated with in the flesh, when we run to our refuge and strength we are able to see more clearly, rest more calmly, and sooth the agitation that we feel in our hearts.  There is still one unchangeable truth that will pour peace in our hearts like warm sunshine on a cold day;  there is still no same-sex marriage!

Regardless of what the Supreme Court states, marriage is not a legal institution, it is a sacred one.  Man didn’t get to vote on it, define it, describe it, or frame it.  A legal arrangement is not the same as the Sacred Union between a man and a woman.  All that they have accomplished is to give the secular liberals a reason to make a lot of noise, pour a lot of champagne, and add to their list of crimes against the kingdom.  They are almost as giddy as the crucifixion mob in the movie the Passion of the Christ . . . and sadly their outcome will be the same.

Now that being said, there is still no victory for the secularist, because there is no game to play, nor is there a battlefield they can fight on.  They remind me of watching 2nd graders run around in the back yard acting like cowboys celebrating a pretend victory over the Whoopahippie Indians.  Their victory is pretend at worst, hollow at best, because at the end of the day, as Bible believing Christians, we still do not take our cues, or our convictions from the guardians of constitutional purity.

We are under no Biblical mandate to acknowledge this ruling.  Rather we are under the full weight of the Biblical mandate to acknowledge that it is irrelevant.  We do not now, nor will we ever, acknowledge same-sex relationships as marriage.  Period.

There is a difference in that which is legal, and that which is moral.  There is a difference in that which is a rule, and that which is righteous.  What five black -robed high priests of secularism did today was essentially – nothing.  They did not change the definition of marriage, they merely certified the damnation that comes with out right defiance of God’s unchanging word.  As children of God we take our cues from the scripture, never the culture.

Ultimately nothing has actually changed.  Marriage is still marriage.  Abomination is still abomination.  As Vance Havner said once, “You can change labels on a bottle all you want and it’s still just as empty.”  There has been no change worth making.

Bruce Jenner and Rachel Dolezal: “Who changed the truth of God . . .”

“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools . . . who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever.  Amen.”  Romans 1:22 and 25

Romans chapter one has long been considered a table of contents outlining humanity’s methodical descent into the hopeless hell that God made for worst of angels guilty of the highest of treason.  Men have always been depraved, and they have always embraced that depravity.  However the Apostle Paul enlightens us on the progress of darkness as it creeps through the ages,  and we can clearly see that the depravity that humanity is embracing seems to be pickup up steam, and multiplying by degrees.

What the Bible delineates for us in Romans 1:21-31, saturates our social powers that be.  The madness has become all but a mandate that we admit men and women have the power to define truth and in order to be a right minded person one must offer up the sacrifice of praise to whatever constitutes the latest decree.

The current insanity that soils our senses has to do with Bruce Jenner, and Rachel Dolezal.  One is a man who demands that the world admit that he is a woman, and the other is white person who has decreed that the world admit that she is black.  Both are acting as though the truth is whatever they declare it to be.  Of course liars and fools have always done such.  The difference now is the voices from the asylum of secular progress has called upon all to acknowledge the powers of their godhead.  The expectation laid upon all of us is to admit that people actually have the power to identify themselves however they so choose, including gender and race, and that all who do not admit that are ignorant, uneducated bigots.

Is “size” identity next?  What about “age” identity?

I measure 5 foot 6 inches tall, but I think I may want to identify as a card carrying seven footer.  What’s more than that, I fully expect every basketball coach in the country to admit it as well.  I’m 42, but if I identify as 67 can I go ahead and demand to start receiving my social security?

What has taken place in the heart of Bruce Jenner is a tragedy of eternal proportions.  What is going on in the mind of Rachel Dolezal leaves us almost speechless when it comes any semblance of intelligent reason.  My heart genuinely hurts for both of them.  They are clearly spiritually, emotionally, and mentally handicapped in ways that only the Bible can diagnose.  It is a bad situation, and it is a sad situation.   . . . . Nonetheless, it is one that the Bible has told us about long before it has come about.

How is a Bible believing Christian to deal with this?

1.) Prayer, evangelism, and grace. – Jesus is the only answer for a lost mind and heart.

2.) Take comfort that all things are as Johnny sang, “goin by the book.”

3.) Stand firm.  Man is what God says he is.  Male or female; red, yellow, black or white; young, or old.  The dictionary of reality is not up for a vote, nor will it just disappear because men choose to ignore it.  Changed truth is no longer truth, as the Bible says, it is a lie.

No one has the market cornered on sin.  Bruce’s “transjennerisation” is a sin.  My evil thoughts are just as much a sin.  But it is not a sin, to call sin a sin.  Rachel’s claim that she is black is a lie.  So is the smile on my face sometimes. We do not have to be perfect to call out the imperfect.  We just know the Word of God, say the Word of God, conform to the Word of God, and beg for others to do the same.

Yet we are to never bow to men’s false sense of power and permission to define and design the realities of life.  There is one Creator; and there is only one dictionary that matters.  Anything different is not a change worth making!

Dealing with the Duggars: How to respond to Josh and his repentance.

In light of the recent revelation about the historical sin and guilt of Josh Duggar, it should surprise no one that the world and the media are waiting like wolves over a wounded animal to jump in and devour this family in a mindless frenzy of decadent indulgence.  With great satisfaction, and proverbial blood dripping from their lips, secular society gets ecstatic every time a public figure who stands for Christ displays the fact that being a sinner is actually a disgusting thing.

First – Sin is disgusting.  Period.  All of it.  We just have a stomach and an appetite for some of it, and a repugnance for the rest of it. It is all putrid, and off-putting to God; nonetheless, sinners sin.  Saved sinners sin.  Saints in the sanctifying process, sin, have sinned, and will sin.  I said that to say this.  When did it become a “surprise” to find out that well-known Christians actually have sinned?  They have not made mistakes.  They have not merely had flaws in their character. They have not made a miss-step. They have committed disgusting crimes against the King and the Kingdom.  They have committed horrendous acts of abomination against God, and directly or indirectly against man.  No thinking Christian, should ever over-look the fact that the sin that the Bible speaks of is not on par with being late for Sunday School, or not returning a library book on time.  The sin that the Bible speaks of, in the eyes of God, in all scenarios is as disgusting, enraging, and repugnant to Him, as child molestation is to man.  Before we ever begin to know how to respond to the issues surrounding Josh Duggar, and the Duggar family, we need to have a crystal clear grip on what it means to actually be a sinner, as all men are.

Second – As I understand the circumstances surrounding this tragedy, there has been no cold calculating secret secured behind an army of propagandist aggressively warring to make sure no one ever knows that Josh sinned. From what I understand, while Josh never wore a sign saying, “I did this . . .” many years ago, it was not something that was unknown, or unknowable to the circle of society available to the family.  There is something circulating about how in 2006, someone reported this to the officials behind the Oprah show.  Now that being said,  I don’t know anyone, in any scenario of life that is required to announce to the world all of the terrible things that they did when they were young teenagers, criminal, deviant, or otherwise. I have never seen a liberal apply this “history test” to their own politicians, Hollywood heroes, and social supermen.  What a parade of jesters that would be.  There is a difference in “lying to the public” and “not parading” dirty laundry down main street.  No one has a moral or social responsibility to publish a list of their historical evils for the world to ogle over, embellish, relish, and condemn.  The psalmist prayed in Psalm 25:7 – “Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD.”  Sharing our testimony (regardless of how dark it once was) is one thing . . . casting pearls before swine is another.

Third – There is no redemption in the eyes of the world.  To my understanding, Jim Bob, and Jill did exactly what they were supposed to do.  The police were called, reports were filed, confession was made, and the law was involved.  There is only one right way to respond, and from all accounts they did what they were supposed to do.  Where there is admission, confession, and repentance, there is to be forgiveness, peace, and restoration.  The shock to the system comes with the fact that Satan’s society receives an admission, confession, and repentance, as an opportunity to inflict pain, and heap reproach upon the guilty party.  That’s why the Bible calls him the “accuser of the brethren.  There is no remedy, or redemption in the eyes of a world that always wants to find someone who they think is a worse sinner than they are.  They run a fool’s errand when they see an opportunity to express moral indignation and then feel like they are standing on higher ground.  Their ground is not higher by kicking someone who they perceive to be lower, they just don’t know that.

What more could they have done in response to Josh’s sin?  No more than admit, confess, and repent. -That’s it.  There is no other recourse.  If there has been genuine admission, and genuine repentance, then the only thing that can be done has been done.

Simply put the question that seems to be hanging in the air is “what do we do when we find out that a professing Christian committed an egregious sin as a young teenager, and didn’t announce it to the world?”

We look for accountable repentance.  Child molestation is inexcusable, and heart breaking, and a clear picture of the nature of sin in all of its glory.  What Josh did as a fourteen year old brought hurt and harm into the lives of other people.  Honesty and repentance is the only way out.  The actions of the family, the victims, and Josh from that day till now paints a picture of the direction Josh is moving. Either He has moved, and is moving away from that sin, or he has not.  If there has been no genuine change, then the grief should continue.  If there has been a genuine change, then strike another one up for the Grace, glory and power of God.  From a disconnected person with a bleachers eye view, it appears that he has responded as he should have.  Only the family and those closest to him can know that at this time.

We see them for what they are, not what they were.  If you are what you were when you were a child then you need to grow up! We must see them as a bonafide outlaw, whose debt was paid at the cross, and whose heart, mind, and soul has changed.

We let them live in the change Jesus makes.  Jesus changes people.  Period.  It does no good to know good for no good.  It’s as much an hypocrisy to proclaim Jesus changes people, and then not let them live with that change, as it is to pretend to be a Christian in the first place. When a Christian holds on to the sins of his brother before his brother was a brother, the grace that is supposed to be in his heart has fallen flat.  We need to get a grip on Grace. Grace is for people who deserve not to have it; any man who deserves it, can’t have it.   I’m thankful for that.

We cannot as children of God, act like the children of the world.  We must give support, where support is due, we must give grace where grace is due.  As Dr. Huckabee stated,  “Sin is not unforgivable.”  In fact I would add, it’s the only thing that CAN be forgiven.  It’s what forgiveness is for.  For the whole world to understand that would be a welcome change worth making.
